The goal of a back massage is to solve muscular issues on your back, legs and neck. It lasts between 20 minutes and 30 minutes. Back massage will mobilise the muscles and reduce or eliminate any unwanted contraction.
In Chinese Medicine terms, back massage concentrates on the Tai Yang channel. This is the first channel affected by pathological factors.
An example of situation where neck and shoulder massage is beneficial is :
- Sitting in front of a computer for long time. The neck and shoulder stay in the same position for extended period of time. This will affect the circulation of blood in the muscles of the neck, the trapezoid and the shoulder. Technically, the shoulders are part of Shao Yang and Shao Yang will play an important part in the headache due to holding this posture for long time.
Leg massage is beneficial for mobilising the muscles of the calf and hamstring especially for runners and cyclists when these muscles are submitted to harsh conditions.
Both situations require extra strength from the massage therapist.
